Ecotec Swap Pt. 1 | Introduction

After owning my Miata for 4 years and taking it to the track for 3 years, I decided it was finally time to get a power upgrade.  After doing extensive research and cross shopping other methods of power upgrades, I landed on doing an Ecotec engine swap. I decided that I wanted a naturally aspirated setup, which had me between a Honda K24 2.4L engine or a GM Ecotec 2.4L engine. Looking at the cost of both swap kits and the amount of fabrication needed for each one, I settled on doing the Ecotec since it was thousands of dollars cheaper. I know power-wise, the Ecotec will make a decent amount less horsepower, but I am okay with that. The 2.4L LE5 Ecotec engine will make about 160 wheel horsepower in the Miata while my stock 1.8L made 104 wheel horsepower on a Rhyno Dyno. The ~60% power increase is just fine for me! I mainly take my Miata to casual track days and drive it around in the summer time, so this is a perfect setup for me. The 2.4L LE5 Ecotec engine is very accessibile as they came in a lot of commuter cars like the Chevy HHR, Pontiac G6, Chevy Malibu, Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky, etc. We purchased the swap kit from www.ecotecmiata.ca, they are now under new ownership and the owner has been super friendly and willing to answer all of the questions we have/had about this project.
