Ecotec Swap Pt. 3 | Wiring!
Now onto the fun part! This is time for our electrical engineering degrees to make an appearance! This part everyone seemed to dread, but I was honestly a bit excited to dive in and conquer this mess of two vehicle wiring harnesses….
Starting with the G6 wiring harness, I went ahead and pulled out everything for the engine harness and brought it to my dining room table. We started by taking off all of the nasty electrical tape and the brittle casing around all of the wires. After that was done, we got to work labeling all of the connectors, cross referencing schematics and checking each one with finding replacement connectors to ensure they look right. After labeling and sorting all of the connectors, we will need to go through and pull out all of the pink and black wires (most of them already lead to the fuse block). This will need to be tied into the Miata body controller which on an NA Miata, is located at the fuse block under the hood.
The coolant temp sensor wire from the Miata will need to be spliced into the Ecotec sensor to be able to send the coolant temp to the dash inside of the Miata. The Miata oil pressure sensor will need to be tapped into the block of the Ecotec and the wiring will stay going to the dash as well. The starter and alternator wires coming from the Miata will connect to the start and alternator on the Ecotec engine.
